Agro-Ecom Picks Cocoa Award

In recognition of its contribution towards the development of the Ashanti Region and Ghana’s cocoa industry, Manhyia Palace presented Gold Award to Agro-Ecom over the weekend.

Ashanti Business Excellence Awards, organized under the auspices of Manhyia Palace – seat of the Ashanti monarch -conferred the award on Agro-Ecom Ghana Limited for its continued assistance to Cocoa Marketing Board.

Agro-Ecom Ghana is part of the Ecom Group – a Switzerland-based commodity merchant and sustainable supply chain management entity, with operations in over 40 countries.

The company is a member of Cocoa Buyers’ Association of Ghana (LICOBAG) and works with over 140,000 farmers.

It is the leading private licensed cocoa buying company in Ghana; it also buys and sells other crops such as cashew and sesame.

It also runs a large logistics business with a fleet of almost 150 modern trucks, among other functions.

“We constantly innovate, create efficiencies and empower our farmers to grow their businesses. This has positioned us at the forefront of changing the industry, driving a unique business model that safe-guards the future of cocoa and other crops in Ghana whilst building prosperity in rural community,” Muhammadu Muzzammil, Country Manager of Ecom Group, underscored.

He continued, “Some of our competitors are Cargill, OLAM, Produce Buying Company (PBC), Cocoa Merchant, Federated Commodities, Adwumapa Buyers, Transroyal Ghana Ltd, Kuapa Cocoa and other commodity buying and trading companies in Ghana.

“We have 500 full time employees at Agro-Ecom Ghana and individual engagements with 5,000 stakeholders and over 140,000 farmers.”

The Administrative Manager of Agro-Ecom, Seth Hammond, who received the award on behalf of the company, pledged the commitment of the company to continue with its vision of ensuring that cocoa farmers in the country get the best support from Agro-Ecom.
