President of the Federation of Zongo Football, Mohammed Murtala Akuter, would lead football fans and sympathizers in Kumasi to embark on an awareness walk today.
The walk, scheduled for the Ashanti regional capital, is aimed at remembering those who lost their lives during the Hearts-Kotoko game on May 9, 2001 at the Accra Stadium.
Speaking in interview, Akuter reiterated the significance of the event, saying, “It’s important to remember them with prayers on such occasions and also create the awareness to prevent what I describe as the dark day of Ghana and world football.”
He revealed that they would start the walk from Allaber to Manhyia Roundabout through Airport Roundabout, Aboabo-Post Office, Anloga Junction, Amakom Traffic Light, Labour Roundabout Asafo Inter Change, Hello FM, Roman Hill, Aboabo Station and end at the Kumasi Central Mosque.
The participants, who would offer prayers for the souls of the May 9 victims to climax the event, would later move to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH).
