The Eastern Regional Communications Director of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), David Prah, has called for the immediate arrest of the Eastern Regional Minister, Mavis Ama Frempong, for impersonation and misrepresentation as the Member of Parliament (MP) for the Abirem Constituency in the region.
The regional minister, who doubles as the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate for Abirem in the December elections, during the “My First Day At School” – when she visited some schools recently – shared thousands of exercise books to students in the area with her picture embossed on them. The books had an inscription as the Member of Parliament for the constituency whereas there is an incumbent MP for the area.
The regional NPP communications directorate, which saw the minister’s behaviour as impersonation, in a press statement, described it as shameful, disingenuous and criminal intent, and therefore called for her immediate arrested and prosecution.

The NPP stressed, “For the records, Madam Mavis Ama Frempong, who happens to be the Eastern Regional Minister, is not the MP for the Abirem Constituency. Indeed, the current Member of Parliament for the Constituency is Hon. Esther Obeng Dappah, who was duly elected in 2012 on the ticket of the NPP to represent us in Parliament. She has since been discharging her legitimate responsibilities both in Parliament and at the constituency”.
Speaking to DAILY GUIDE, Mr Prah said the party was calling on the minister to immediately retrieve every copy of those “misleading books” from the students, desist from further distribution and then render an unqualified apology to the sitting MP as well as the people of the Abirem Constituency for the misrepresentation.
He added that failure to heed to the party’s demands within a reasonable timeframe would incur its wrath.
“We shall advise ourselves and thus, act in a manner that protects the sanctity of the position of a Member of Parliament. It is shocking to us that a whole Minister of state, who ought to know better, could perpetrate such diabolic, criminal act,” Mr. Prah added.
He advised the students who received copies of the books to use correcting fluid to clean the deceptive inscription.
