Asantehene and Vice President, Jane Naana Opoku-Agyeman at Manhyia
The Asantehe, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, yesterday held a closed-door meeting with Vice President Prof. Naana Jane Opoku Agyeman at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi.
The Vice President was in the Ashanti Regional capital to inspect a number of ongoing government-funded infrastructural projects, including the recently fire-ravaged Suame Market, the Mampongteng Market, and the Krofrom Market.
After completing her tour of the sites, she proceeded to the Manhyia Palace where she met the Asantehene for private discussions.
Although the details of the meeting remain undisclosed, palace sources suggested that the talks likely centered on stalled development projects in Kumasi and other parts of the Ashanti Region.
The Asantehene, who has consistently championed the cause of development since ascending the Golden Stool in 1999, is known to be deeply interested in ensuring that the region receives the necessary government attention.
The Vice President’s visit follows a recent assurance by President John Dramani Mahama during a trip to Kumasi that his administration would complete ongoing projects to improve business and economic activities in the city.
Her tour and subsequent engagement with the Asantehene are seen as part of efforts to reaffirm that commitment.
Vice President Opoku Agyemang was accompanied to the Manhyia Palace by her Chief of Staff, Alex Percival Segbefia; Presidential Staffer and Special Aide, Professor Theresa Ennin; Prof. Sharif Mahmud Khalid, her Press Secretary; Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene; and Richard Ofori Agyeman-Boadi, Mayor of Kumasi.
