The Ashanti Regional NDC Taskforce members addressing the press in Kumasi
MEMBERS OF the Ashanti Regional National Democratic Congress (NDC) Taskforce are up in arms against the party leadership, in what they termed as “used and dumped”.
According to the group, the NDC used them to gain avalanche of votes in the Ashanti Region in 2024, but the party has since refused to reward them accordingly.
Maxwell Hope, aka ‘I don’t want peace’, coordinator for the group, addressing the media in Kumasi urged the party to honour their promise to them to ensure peace.
He said prior to the 2024 polls, Lieutenant Colonel (Rtd) Larry Gbevlo-Lartey, a top member of the NDC, assured to reward them with jobs if they worked for the party to win the polls.
According to him, the NDC Taskforce members were told to work for the NDC to get 29% of votes in the Ashanti Region, and they were able to beat that target with 35% votes.
Maxwell bemoaned that three months after the 2024 election, which the NDC won convincingly to make John Mahama the President, his group has not heard anything from the party.
He said the NDC Taskforce members have realised that if they remain quiet and don’t complain, the party leadership would ignore them, and their hard work and toil will be in vain.
“Gbevlo-Lartey said if we are able to get the targeted 29% votes for the NDC in Ashanti Region, he will recruit our members into the National Security or any other gainful work.
“This assurance, which was given by him before the 2024 national elections, hugely motivated us to create more taskforces and worked harder for the NDC to get 35% votes.
“But three months after the election, appointments have been going on from the presidency but we haven’t heard a word from them. This is not fair, and that’s why we are complaining.
“We contributed significantly with our strength, resources and lives to secure victory for the NDC, so the party should fulfil its promise to us immediately,” Maxwell stated.
Still lamenting, the NDC Taskforce Coordinator said “they didn’t even call to thank us for our efforts for the party’s win,” warning the NDC to change their bad attitude towards them.
According to Maxwell, the 2028 election is just around the corner, so if the party leadership refuses to reward them, the NDC would suffer to get loyal men to work for the party.
He passionately appealed to President John Mahama and Vice President Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang to come to their aid, by ensuring that they are recruited into the National Security.
