Asutsuare Market Part Of IPEP – Minister

Hajia Alima Mahama

THE MINISTER of Local Government and Rural Development, Hajia Alima Mahama, says the Shai-Osudoku District Assembly, with support from the Ministry of Special Development Initiatives, is undertaking the construction of a rural market at Asutsuare.

According to her, the project is part of the Infrastructure for Poverty Eradication Programme (IPEP) aimed at constructing markets in some selected districts across the country.

Answering questions on the Floor of Parliament on Tuesday, the minister disclosed that the construction of the market project started on July 22, 2019 and comprised 72 open market sheds, two warehousing facilities and a four-seated toilet facility with a mechanised borehole.

She stated that the project was being executed by Messrs Nagmas Ltd at the cost of GH? 911,999.55 to be completed in seven calendar months, and added that the project was 95 per cent complete.

“Contract for the construction of phase two of the Asutuare market in the Shai-Osudoku Constituency has been awarded to Messrs Zegor Ltd with funding from the Coastal Development Authority (CODA) (under the ‘One Million dollar per Constituency Project’).”

“The contract sum is GH?1,983,642.24 for completion in six calendar months,” Madam Mahama said, and continued that the scope of work for the market project included 40 lockable shops, 40 open sheds and a crèche, intimating that the contractor is currently mobilizing to move to the site.

 DODOWA MARKET CENTRE

On the Dodowa market in the same constituency, the minister indicated that the project had been in existence for about 28 years and that the district assembly decided to redevelop the market in phases.

She disclosed that the assembly had asked the CODA to fund the project from the ‘One Million Dollar per Constituency Project’ for the first phase.

“The first phase of the project, which covers the construction of 40 lockable shops, 40 open sheds and a crèche, was awarded to Messrs Rock Solutions Ltd at a contract sum of GH?1,983,642.24.”

“It was to be completed in six calendar months. The contractor is expected to start work as soon as negotiations with families claiming ownership of the land were completed.”
