At Last A Running Mate (2)

Already, Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia has fired the first salvo saying as Vice President, he spearheaded over 30 policies, a challenge to John Mahama to tell us about his stewardship as Vice President.

We expect the Institute of Economic Affairs (IEA) or other governance institutions to organise presidential debates for our presidential candidates and their running mates. We want our presidential candidates to tell us about their stewardship in the past and how they want to leverage the past to get us to the Promised Land.

For Napo, we think beyond the issues in the education sector, we want him to carry us along his “dum sie sie” mantra as against the destructive dumsor during the NDC era. Talking about electricity generation and sustained distribution, reminds us of a leading member in the NDC, John Jinapor, who kept talking or screaming ‘dumsor is back’ a few months ago and demanding a timetable from the ECG and GRIDCo, to help the people to manage their lives during the recent power challenges.

Today, we ask John Jinapor to come again with his claims of dumsor or a dire power crisis. We ask again that has the race for political office pushed certain characters to the stage where they do not care about the people’s welfare again? All they care about is political office. How it is obtained, no longer matters. That is why some of them, especially from the NDC are calling for the Ghana version of the Kenyan protests.

We detest the apostles of probity and accountability who are always hungry for violence and calling on the youth to take to the streets. We have said time and again that building from the ashes of war or violence is one of the most difficult endeavour ever. We trust in the judgement of our compatriots that if we have issues with our governments, we have opportunity to make another choice in four years.

Indeed, in the over 30-year history, we have changed regime on three occasions using the ballot box. Those who in our present circumstances are considered the alternate government are just desperate for power but lack the messages to convince the people to vote for them.

The agitation from the NDC for the Ghana version of the Kenyan protests only goes to serve a parochial and selfish interest. Thus if that cause cannot be served, the NDC must continue to preach “aforkunya”, Armageddon, doom or the Ghana version of Kenyan protests. That distinguishing characteristics can be found not only in Okudzeto Ablakwa, Sammy Gyamfi, Asiedu Nketia, and John Mahama, but John Jinapor too who sees dumsor in his dream and wakes up singing about it.

Mind you, the NDC is trying to restate the events leading to the 2008 elections with all the lies and smear campaign against President Kufuor. Don’t forget, the same strategy was used in 1981 to get Hilla Limann out of office using elements in youth wing of the PNP to foment trouble.
