AU Hails Akufo-Addo

The Akufo-Addo government has received commendation for its management of the affairs of the nation. The commendation came from the African Union Commission and it was contained in a latest report by the Commission.

This came to light when the Commissioner for Peace and Security at the African Union (AU), Ambassador Smail Chergui, and members of his team called on President Akufo-Addo at the ‘Jubilee House’ in Accra on Tuesday.

They were there to present him with a copy of the report which assesses the country’s Structural Vulnerability Resilience. Ghana is the first country to have volunteered for the assessment.

“Through this exercise, we found out that Ghana is really a beacon of stability and democracy. The policies in this country under your leadership, Mr. President, give confidence to the social economic space here”, he stressed.

He however expressed hope that after reading the report, President Akufo-Addo and members of his government would take note of their shortcomings and make amends accordingly.

President Akufo-Addo said: “We attach a great deal of importance to the African Union and the whole continental objective of unification and integration of our continent. You know very well that our first leader was one of the biggest torchbearers of the Pan African banner; since then successive leaders of Ghana have shown commitment to the Pan African agenda”

“It’s come to my turn; we continue to believe that Ghana’s national interest is inextricably linked to this continental agenda; so whatever we can do always to push forward the claims of the continent, we believe it is in our interest to do so”, he added.

He commended the Commission for the technical assistance it provided during the process and promised to do whatever it takes to implement the findings of the report.
