Barbara Matthews Von Enger

The exhibition, which is slated to take place in May 2019, will be opened to the general public.

The decision to host the exhibition in Ghana, according to Barbara, is due to her respect and love for Ghana, adding that she wants to learn more about Ghanaian culture.

Barbara will be displaying over 25 pieces comprising installation art, works on paper, conceptual art, sculpted pieces, among others.

The Jamaican artist whose art covers a range of topics, including religion, fashion, race and identity in Germany, human rights, love and sexuality, the cultures of rap music and Jamaican dancehall, is also an arts philanthropist.

Due to her unflinching love for tradition, she promotes culture, fight freedom of the oppressed and equality through art.

Barbara said her inspiration is multifaceted and does not come in one direction. “It is a funny feeling which cannot be grabbed,” she indicated.

Babara, who hails from Ethiopia, was born in Red Hills, St. Andrew in Jamaica. She was introduced to art by her mother. She subsequently studied the subject through a private tutor who taught her in the house.

She later enrolled at Hillell Academy and Oxford University in England to study arts and modern languages, and then followed up to Goethe Institution in Germany.

Barbara is single, her reason being that arts is time consuming, and cannot be box together with relationship, which also demands same.
