The Vice President Alhaji Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia stormed the Manhyia Palace yesterday to console the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II over the death of his mother.

It was his maiden visit to the Manhayia Palace after he swore the oath to become Ghana’s Vice President on January 7, this year.

Dr. Bawumia was accompanied by his wife Samira Bawumia, Ghana’s Second Lady.

They visited the palace on the third day of the four-day burial rites for the departed Asantehemaa, which started on Monday.

Rousing Welcome

The Veep and his wife were given a rousing welcome by the large number of mourners at the Manhyia Palace.

The mentioning of Dr. Bawumia’s name at the venue instantly drew applause from the mourners.

Dr. Bawumia and his wife were led by Bernard Antwi Boasiako aka ‘Wontumi’, the Ashanti Regional NPP Chairman, to the palace.

After responding to the cheers, the Veep and his entourage went to the Asantehemaa’s palace to pay their last respects to her.

They filed past the body of the late Asantehemaa, who was dressed in gallant ‘Kente’ with gold ornaments.

Dr. Bawumia and his team proceeded to the forecourt of the Manhyia Palace to pay homage to Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, who sat in state.

The shouts were deafening after Dr. Bawumia and his entourage had consoled Otumfuo.
