Comfort Attah
The Biakoye District Assembly has tried to erase the seeming impression that they were against female district chief executive (DCE) nominees of President Akufo-Addo. The impression was negated by their endorsement of Comfort Attah as DCE.
The district, prior to confirming Madam Attah, had out-rightly rejected another female nominee, Millicent Kabuki Carboo, on three occasions. She only managed to poll 23 out of the 43 votes cast, representing 53 percent at the last voting – short of the required two-thirds of the total votes cast.
Madam Comfort Attah nearly suffered a similar faith as her first attempt at the confirmation resulted in 40 ‘Yes’ votes in favour of her endorsement, out of 47 votes – one vote short of the two-thirds needed to be confirmed. However, she was second time lucky, polling 42 out of the 47 votes cast, representing 89 percent.
The Volta Regional Minister, Dr. Archibald Letsa, who witnessed the confirmation, commended the assembly members for rescinding their decision and giving the nominee the nod. He was hopeful that their decision would open the floodgates of development in the Biakoye District.
In her acceptance speech, Madam Comfort Attah thanked President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and the assembly members for giving her the opportunity to serve the nation.
She promised to provide the leadership that will help transform the living standard of the people in the district and urged the assembly members to put all hands on desk to fashion out a holistic strategy to tackle the myriad problems – sanitation, water, education, jobs, among others –Â Â facing them.
Madam Attah added that improving the economic life of the people is her priority and would also make sure that every citizen of Biakoye  is offered the opportunity to participate actively in the governance of the district.
