Bashiru Sulemana Bolidema
Bashiru Sulemana Bolidema, a man who was leading a double life, was exposed when his gay partner stormed his house in Nungua, Accra, to create a scene last Sunday.
The wife of Bashiru, (name withheld) who was learning for the first time that her husband was bisexual, fainted when the issue finally dawned on her, and it took the effort of neighbours to revive her.
When news of the development reached the family of Bashiru in Mamobi, where he grew up, they organized a lot of youth to chase the culprit in Nungua.
DAILY GUIDE learnt that Bashiru got wind of the impending attack on his home and fled the scene before the youth could even reach Nungua.
It was gathered that the angry youth warned the residents of the community that anyone who would shield Bashiru would face their wrath.
Since then, no one seems to know the whereabouts of Bashiru.
Homosexuality has, since the enactment of the Criminal Offences Act (Act 29) in 1960, been a crime in Ghana. As a result it is frowned by all communities, with homophobia being on the rise.
Recently, especially in Zongo Communities, LGBTs have been openly subjected to mob action and in some instances, lynching. Various vigilante groups such as “Gay Killers” and “Gay Slayers” have taken homophobia to another level, raising concerns over human rights issues in the country.
