The Bank of Ghana (BoG) has organised a two-day media training workshop for journalists to equip them on financial reporting.
The training which was held in Kumasi, the Ashanti Regional capital from Thursday October 17-18 2024, formed part of the BOG’s efforts to ensure that the media accurately interpret and report on economic issues, monetary policy decisions and their implications.
Thematic areas and topics treated at the workshop were: Ethical Reporting, Macroeconomic Analysis and Significance of Macroeconomic Indicators, Monetary Policy Practice in Ghana and Understanding Inflation Dynamics in Ghana.
Director of Communications at BoG Bernard Otabil, lauded the role of the media in supporting BoG’s effort.
He stated that the central bank becomes more effective when the state understands what it does.
He re-echoed the importance of the workshop, stating that it raises and inspires the journalists to aspire to the highest standards of their profession.
“The media is very important to the Bank of Ghana, playing a critical role in helping the bank communicate its message to the public. You (the media) are an important factor and we (BoG) cannot overlook what you do,” Mr. Otabil stressed.
He also pleaded with the media to use their power positively in creating peace, unity and growth for the betterment of all and sundry because of their power to impact the society.
Mr. Otabil commended the media for the continuous support to his outfit and pledged BoG’s commitment to enhance their relationship with the media and also support them to educate the citizenry.
For his part, the Ashanti Regional Chairman for the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA), Kingsley E. Hope, commended the leadership of BoG for building the capacity of his colleagues in the region.
He also implored the management of BoG to emphasise the training of journalists on financial reporting to avoid misinforming the public.
