The Best Farmer (right) Receiving His Prizes
The 2017 Overall Best Farmer of Prestea-Huni Valley Municipality of the Western Region who claimed he was not given the prizes he deserved and so became disappointed with the municipal assembly, has finally received what he wanted.
The 35-year old Municipal best farmer, John Enimil returned all the items given to him including the four knapsack sprayers, a bicycle, five wellington boots, nine cutlasses, 2 radio sets, a flat-screen TV and a table-top fridge, to the assembly because he claimed he was not given a tricycle.
The municipal best farmer could not fathom why the 2016 best farmer in the area was given a brand new tricycle in addition to the other prizes and he would be denied that.
“In 2016 the Overall Best Farmer was given a brand new tricycle (Aboboya) so I was expecting the same or very important item than a bicycle”, he lamented when he spoke to journalists after returning the items.
Explaining what caused the problem, the Member of Parliament for the area, Babara Oteng Gyasi remarked “All the districts were instructed to present prizes to only seven hardworking farmers, but we realized that there were many hardworking farmers in the district so we decided to increase the beneficiaries to 20”.
“But the resources were not enough so we decided to share the little among the best farmers. But it’s unfortunate that the company that promised to donate the tricycle did not honour the promise and that is why we could not get the “Aboboya,” she added.
The MP who doubles as the Deputy Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, then appealed to Mr Enimil to exercise patience to allow the district to resolve the issue and promised to get the tricycle for him.
MP Fulfils Promise
At a mini durbar held at Mankuma in the area last Friday, the Deputy Lands and Natural Resources Minister fulfilled the promise when she presented a tricycle (Aboboya) to John Enimil.
Barbara Oteng-Gyasi indicated “It was unfortunate that our best farmer was unhappy with the award and I deemed it important to ensure that he appreciated his status of Municipal Best Farmer”.
“I was out of the country on official assignment and returned home to hear all the negative publicity which I considered a dent on the image of the Municipality”, she revealed.
Receiving the items on behalf of the best farmer, Mrs. Patience Enimil, wife of the municipal best farmer, expressed her profound gratitude to the Deputy Lands Minister for the support.
“We are now happy as a family, God bless Lawyer Barbara Oteng-Gyasi for supporting us”, she added.
She also promised to make good use the Aboboya and pledged to work assiduously to make agriculture very attractive in the Municipality to increase food production.
