John Alexander Ackon

The Ashanti Regional Minister, John Alexander Ackon says “possible conclusions reached experts” regarding the discovery of two bombs close to the residence of the Deputy Regional Minister, Andy Osei Okrah point to the fact that “the first could have been ignited to explode and the second one to follow to create multiple explosions“.

According to him, per experts’ deductions “if the motive was to create higher number of injuries/casualties/damages“, then the perpetrators would “ignite the detonator to explode the dynamite when people come around using remote control.

The Regional Minister, who urged Ghanaians especially residents of Kumasi to remain calm, told Kwami Sefa Kayi in an interview Thursday, that the explosives included “one timer device, one remote control, two explosive boosters, two safety fuses, two detonators and two dynamites”.

Fear gripped residents of Danyame, a suburb in Kumasi, in the evening of Monday, when the powerful explosives were allegedly thrown into the residence of the Deputy Regional Minister.

At about 7:00pm on Monday, some of the people living close to Andy Osei Okrah’s residence were said to have run out of their homes on hearing “the planting of a grenade” in the house.

The deputy Minister’s official bungalow in the Ashanti Regional capital, is close to the National Security Data Centre in the region.

A statement signed by the regional Minister also revealed that “a third cylinder was taken away on the motor bike according to the Police guard.
