The deceased father, Amadu Yanga. INSET: The suspect, Mohammed Kwame
An 18-year-old boy, Mahamadu Kwame alias Yanta Reba, from a village called Kyea near Babator-Kuma in the Kintampo Municipality of the Brong Ahafo Region, has been arrested by the police for allegedly shooting and killing his octogenarian father, Amadu Yanga and inflicting a wound on his elder brother, Amadu Yanga.
Police in the region say investigations have commenced to unravel the cause of shooting that killed the old man and wounded another person. Even though other sources say the boy killed the father and wounded his brother over a bowl of soup, Regional Police Public Relations Officer, Chief Inspector Augustine Oppong, told DAILY GUIDE that investigations would soon establish that.
The remains of the deceased have since been deposited at the Kintampo Municipal Hospital for autopsy while Amadu Yanga is responding to treatment at the same hospital, DAILY GUIDE has gathered.
Regional police spokesman told DAILY GUIDE that one Saratu Amadu, 34, reported to the police at Babator-Kuma that a misunderstanding ensued between the two brothers, Amadu Yanga, 30, and his younger brother, Mahamadu Kwame.
She said in the course of the argument, Yanta, armed with a single barrel gun fired twice at the buttocks of the brother and injured him in the process. His 80-year-old father who was with them tried to stop the teenager from firing more shots, but unfortunately his son shot him in the chest killing him instantly.
He attempted to escape after the act but was arrested by members of the community and handed over to the police. He has since been detained and is helping the police in their investigations.
