Bright Steps International School
BRIGHT STEPS International School (BSI), an inclusive school for children with autism and their neurotypical counterparts, has unveiled its new building at East Legon, Accra.
The new building, which has over 20 rooms, is made up of well spacious classrooms, library, restroom, therapy rooms among other facilities which seek to achieve the school’s aim of creating a conducive environment for its students.
Founder and CEO, BSI, Mrs. Grace Nkrumah stated that the school embodies Ghana’s educational aspirations, including diversity, innovation, and inclusivity, emphasising that the school has blended Montessori foundations with evidence-based special education practices to create a vibrant, purpose-driven community.
“This new campus represents more than just a physical space – it’s a symbol of possibility. A place where innovation meets compassion, and children with autism, developmental delays, and unique learning profiles are celebrated alongside their neurotypical peers,” she stated.
Mrs. Nkrumah affirmed her commitment to upholding the highest standards of care and learning, innovating, and putting the child at the heart of everything they do.
The Minister of Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, congratulated Bright Steps International School on the opening of its new building, stating that, “We commend the school’s commitment to inclusive education, particularly for children with special needs and those on the autism spectrum. The school’s approach aligns with Ghana’s national goals for inclusive development and universal health coverage.”
He added that the school’s emphasis on emotional well-being, mental health, and developmental support is a model worth replicating, while reaffirming the ministry’s commitment to working with institutions like Bright Steps to expand access to pediatric developmental screenings, early intervention services, and public awareness campaigns.
Inspector General of Schools at the National School Inspection Authority of the Ghana Education Service, Prof. Azeroth Tahiti Salifu, stated that the school embodies the essence of Ghana’s educational aspirations of diversity, and inclusivity. He stated that the establishment aligns with the Ministry of Education’s vision of ensuring no learner is left behind, regardless of their learning needs and abilities.
