ISAHAKUR ABUBAKAR, a brother of the late Abdul Nasiru Yusif, one of the two persons who died during the recent mayhem at Ejura, has said he also escaped death by a whisker.
According to him, a bullet, which was alleged to have been fired by one of the soldiers, dispatched to Ejura to help restore law and order, nearly hit him from behind.
Abubakar claimed that the military men, numbering about seven, were firing shots indiscriminately, compelling residents of the community to ran helter-skelter in order to save their lives.
Appearing before the three-member committee at the Prempeh Assembly Hall, Kumasi, that is conducting public enquiry into the mayhem at Ejura, he said it was a miracle that he was still alive.
“I was also running at top speed to prevent being hit by a bullet and suddenly a gun bullet flew over my head, in a very dangerous manner, and it eventually hit a transformer in the area,” he narrated.
According to him, the bullets were seen flying all over the skies of the Ejura.
Narrating how it all started on June 29, 2021, the day that the angry youth of Ejura hit the streets to demonstrate following the death of social media activitst Ibrahim Mohammed aka Macho Kaaka, the witness said he went to the bank at Ejura to withdraw money.
He said a few minutes after the bank visit, he had a phone call to the effect that there was trouble all over Ejura, adding that he saw a mob agitating in the streets.
Abubakar said he then saw soldiers in a vehicle, who fired series of warning shots, adding that “we were all running to take cover and I saw a bullet flew over my head and it hit a transformer.”
He said he managed to flee from harm’s way and upon reaching his office, he also had information that his brother, Abdul Nasiru Yusif, had been shot and killed.
