Cable Thieves Raid Military Hospital

The chamber where the cables were stolen

THE MILITARY Hospital at Afari in the Ashanti Region, which is under construction, has been attacked by unknown thieves, who made away with cables.

The theft, which certainly was undertaken under the cover of darkness, was detected around 8am on February 19, 2025, the Atwima Divisional Police has announced.

According to the police, the runaway thieves stole quantities of cables from a chamber beside building Number Seven at the hospital and fled with their booty.

So far, no arrest has been made, but the police in the area have assured that they are doing everything possible to identify and apprehend the perpetrators to face the law.

“Efforts are being made to identify and arrest the culprits,” a police statement from the Atwima Division, which has been sighted by the DAILY GUIDE, stated.

The 500-bed capacity medical facility is expected to be completed in September 2025. It is, however, not known if the cable theft could affect the opening of the hospital.

Throwing more light about the case, the Atwima Divisional Police report said one Major Fred Ocloo, the hospital’s Site Liaison Officer, reported the theft case to the police.

“He reported that on 19/02/25 at 7:45 am, he received a mobile phone call from one Engineer Mark, who informed him of seeing some marks on the road from the hospital leading into his farm.

“That he suspects something had been stolen from the said hospital through his farm. That about 8:00am he visited the hospital and combed around with the military men on duty and realised that 3*25mm square +120 cables had been stolen from the chamber beside building No. 7,” the police report disclosed.

On receipt of the complaint, the police said they “proceeded to the site with the complainant where he showed the chamber where the cables were stolen from,” adding that the culprits are being pursued.
