A speeding vehicle with registration number AS 4938-16 crashed into two electric poles at Aburaso around 12:30 p.m. causing a power outage in parts of the community.

According to eyewitness accounts, the vehicle was descending a hill at top speed when the driver lost control. The car narrowly missed crashing into a hairdressing container, where the Unit Committee Chairperson of the Aburaso Electoral Area, Madam Rita Tieku, was getting her hair done.

In a miraculous turn of events, the car veered off just before hitting the container and instead collided with two electric poles, bringing them down before finally coming to a halt. The impact plunged sections of Aburaso into darkness.

Madam Rita Tieku, who witnessed the incident firsthand, recounted that the driver and three other passengers fled the scene immediately after the crash, leaving the ignition keys inside the vehicle.

“I immediately called officials from the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), and they responded swiftly to assess the damage,” she said. “The police from the Denkyemuoso station were also notified and came to tow the vehicle away.”

She added that ECG officials followed the police to the station to officially lodge a complaint regarding the damage caused to their infrastructure.

Residents who gathered at the scene expressed gratitude to God for sparing the lives of Madam Tieku and the hairdresser, who could have been fatally injured had the vehicle crashed into the container.

Further investigations by this reporter revealed that the vehicle belongs to a nurse who arrived at the scene the following day to apologise to Madam Tieku and the hairdresser for the incident.

It has also emerged that the person behind the wheel was a mason working on a project for the nurse. He reportedly took the car without her permission but with her knowledge, leading to the unfortunate incident.

Madam Tieku has appealed to ECG to expedite repair works on the damaged poles to restore power to affected homes in the area.
