Car Snatcher Busted At Gbawe

Kodri Awedala

A suspected armed robber, who allegedly snatched a taxi from its owner at Amamoley Junction on Sunday and attempted to escape with the vehicle, has been arrested by the police.

The suspect Kodri Awedala, 23, was arrested on the Gbawe Road by a police patrol team, but his accomplice (named withheld) managed to escape.

The Toyota Corolla cab with registration number GR 6806-17 was also retrieved.

The suspect is currently in the custody of the Amasaman Police, while the vehicle has also been impounded pending further investigations.

Briefing DAILY GUIDE, the Amasaman Divisional Police Commander, Chief Superintendent Francis Yiribaare, said the suspects snatched the vehicle from the victim on Sunday, June 3, 2018 around 12:35am.

The suspects hired the services of the driver to transport them from Pokuase Festus Junction to Amamoley at dawn.

Upon reaching Amamoley Junction, the two suspects pulled a gun on the driver and dragged him out of the vehicle.

They sped off in the vehicle and left the owner to his fate.

A police patrol team immediately arrived at the scene and gave the two a hot chase after the residents briefed them.

The police saw the suspects on the Gbawe Road, but one of them, upon seeing them, jumped out of the vehicle and bolted.

Awedala, who was then driving the vehicle, was immediately apprehended by the police.

The police later conveyed the suspect, vehicle and victim to the police station for further investigations.

The suspect is currently assisting the police to arrest his accomplice to face prosecution.
