INSET: The ultra-modern police station

A CHIEF in the Shama District of the Western Region has built an ultra-modern police station for the district.

The one-storey police station was built by Nana Kwamena Dekyi I, Dwantuahene of the Shama area.

Nana Dekyi, known in private life as Isaac Afful, is a lawyer and the Chief Executive Officer of the Lower Pra Rural Bank.

The GH¢1.8 million facility, replaces the 1963 detached police station and provides comfortable offices for investigators, officers and the commander.

At a brief commissioning ceremony, the chief indicated that he decided to construct the facility single-handedly because of his desire to see police officers work from good working conditions.

He was hopeful that the new building would enable the police to discharge their duties more effectively and efficiently.

He said, “The security of Shama District is paramount and it is not the sole responsibility of government. We cannot remain spectators in a quest for prudent policing in our dear district.” DCOP Mr. Victor Adusah-Poku, the Western Regional Police Commander, noted how public safety and security had become very essential.

He lauded the chief for such an enormous contribution to policing in the country.

“I want to appeal to resourceful institutions to emulate the shining examples of the Shama Community and for that matter Nana Kwamena Dekyi I,” he stated.

He said the Shama District is becoming an industrial hub and, therefore, needed such an edifice to improve efficiency and performance in crime prevention and protecting lives and properties.

He, therefore, called for community support through credible and timely information to lead to arrest of criminals.

Kwabena Okyere Darko-Mensah, the Western Regional Minister, said the safety of the Ghanaian was a priority to government, and was leaving no stone unturned in ensuring that citizens go about their daily lives in conducive settings.

The minister said government would continue to invest in national security for the benefit of its citizenry.

He was happy that such private kindhearted individuals had the zeal and willingness to help the police deliver on its mandate.
