‘Children Of The Mountain’, a film which won an award at the Tribeca Film Festival (New York, USA), will on Thursday, March 1 be screened at the Goethe-Institute in Accra.
Directed by Priscilla Anany, it is a story of a single mother seeking help for her only child and in the process slowly gains the insight to fight for her own independence.
With a moving score and beautiful photography, it is a wise tale that challenges a mother to either fight for her child or succumb to a society that pressures her to abandon her child.
Educated at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts and New York University (both in the USA), Priscilla started a Ghana-based production company, i60 Productions in 2011, and has been working as a producer and fixer for international producers who want to shoot their projects in West Africa.
Currently sharing her time between Ghana and the United States, she completed her short film ‘Hospitals’ (Korji) in 2013 and went on to shoot her debut feature, ‘Children Of The Mountain’, which premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival in 2016.
‘Children Of The Mountain’ also won the Audience Award at the 2016 Film Africa Film Festival in London (UK). As a women’s empowerment advocate, Priscilla likes to tell stories about women and their strengths.
Her goal is to make films that portray people of African descent in a positive light while telling stories that explore the unique and undiscovered richness of cultures of Africa. Goethe-Institut Ghana is sponsoring the screening.
