Sam Bankman-Fried, the former boss of the collapsed crypto exchange platform, FTX, has been arrested in the Bahamas on Monday.
According to reports, Bankman-Fried was arrested by the police as requested by American authorities and faces likely extradition.
Confirming the arrest, the United States of America attorney for Southern District of New York, Damian Williams, in a tweet on Tuesday said, “Earlier this evening, Bahamian authorities arrested Samuel Bankman-Fried at the request of the U.S. Government, based on a sealed indictment filed by the SDNY. We expect to move to unseal the indictment in the morning and will have more to say at that time.”
FTX, which Bankman-Fried was Chief Executive Officer had filed for bankruptcy in the United States of America in November and he stepped down from his position.
