Gyedu Blay Ambolley
A Colombian music band has been receiving a lot of applauds for performing a song titled, ‘Abrantie’ by celebrated Ghanaian highlife musician, Gyedu Blay Ambolley.
The band’s live performance which was captured in a video in circulation on social media has since been attracting a lot of attention.
Top sound engineer, Zapp Mallet, who shared the video on Facebook, commented, “Colombians jamming to Ambolley.”
Several others also described it as “awesome.”
The song was originally performed by Gyedu Blay Ambolley and his African band.
Not many people expected the Colombian band to understand the language and perform it. However, they surprised everyone and performed it to near perfection.
Majority of those who commented on social media described the performance as “great”, adding that they performed it better than most young Ghanaian live band artistes would have.
The performance has popped up in the Ghanaian space not long after a conversation that high life music deserves a huge marketing push to world.
Gyedu Blay Ambolley is one of Ghana’s most celebrated high life and jazz musicians. He is also a songwriter, producer, and composer.
The first musician from Ghana and the world to formally incorporate rap forms into local highlife rhythms, Ambolley created the musical genre Simigwa and it is no wonder his songs are being performed out there. This is because his works are popular out there.
