Dr. Frederick Yao Mac-Palm
A Kaneshie District Court has ordered the Medical Director of the Police Hospital in Accra to submit a medical report on Dr. Frederick Yao Mac-Palm, the alleged ring leader of a group that was planning to overthrow the government, according to prosecutors.
This was after his lawyer, Victor K. Adawudu, had pleaded with the court to allow the police to take Dr. Mac-Palm, a medical doctor himself who is the proprietor of the Citadel Hospital at Alajo in Accra, to the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital, Accra, for medical attention.
Dr. Mac-Palm was said to have been ill and the court ordered that he be taken to the Police Hospital for treatment.
But the hospital could not tell what was wrong with him as it said it did not have the medical expert to interpret the results of the test conducted on him.
The court presided over by Magistrate Eleanor Barnes-Botchway then asked for a copy of the medical report but she was told by the police that they cannot demand a copy of the medical report from the hospital.
The magistrate subsequently made an order directed at the Medical Director of the Police Hospital to furnish the court with the medical result by February 13, 2020, and the case was subsequently adjourned until February 20.
Meanwhile, lawyer for the accused persons has filed another application for bail at the High Court hoping to get the suspects, including military personnel, released from custody.
‘Coup’ Plot
Dr. Mac-Palm, ACP Dr. Benjamin Agordzo and a senior officer, Col. Samuel Kojo Gameli, are before the court for their alleged involvement in the coup attempt.
Other accused persons include Donya Kafui, aka Ezor, a local weapon manufacturer (blacksmith) from Alavanyo, and Bright Allan Debrah Ofosu, aka BB or ADC, both civilians.
The military officers caught in the alleged coup plot are Lance Corporal Ali Solomon, Lance Corporal Sylvester Akapewu, Lance Corporal Seidu Abubakar and one WO II Esther Saan aka Mama Gee of the Military Academy and Training Schools (MATS) and also a civilian employee of the Ghana Armed Force, Gershon Akpa.
The accused persons are facing five counts of treason felony, conspiracy, treason, abetment of treason felony, and possession of explosives and ammunition without lawful excuse.
