The family after the meeting
A new video circulating on social media shows Kofi Owusu, the family head of the late Highlife legend Daddy Lumba, reaffirming that the musician’s final funeral rites will be held on December 13, 2025.
The affirmation came just after a meeting with members of the Ekuona Royal Family of Nsuta and Parkoso at the family residence in Kumasi.
According to the Family head, preparations for December 13 funeral are underway and extended an open invitation to Ghanaians to attend the ceremony, scheduled to take place at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.
In the video, Mr. Owusu apologised to the public for the confusion and tension that have accompanied arrangements since Daddy Lumba’s passing.
He expressed gratitude to all who supported the one-week celebration, including those who attended, those who offered prayers, and those who contributed financially.
“We thank everyone who attended the one-week celebration. We also thank those who couldn’t make it but supported with prayers and those who made money donations. We want everyone to come and support the funeral on December 13 so everything goes well,” he said.
He further called on the people of Kumasi to show love to the late musician, adding that chiefs and the public are all welcome.
“Kumasi, it is time to show Daddy Lumba love. We are inviting all the chiefs and the public. Please come so we can give Daddy Lumba a befitting funeral. On December 13, the funeral will come on live,” he stated.
Kofi Owusu’s reaffirmation comes amid widespread reports that some family members have taken legal action to place an injunction on Daddy Lumba’s body, raising uncertainty about whether the funeral will proceed as planned.
