RESIDENTS OF Dawhenya in the Ningo-Prampram District of the Greater Accra Region, have blocked the Dawhenya-Afienya road in protest of its deplorable state.
The residents see the road as a death trap, hence the protest.
They burnt lorry tyres and blocked the road with woods to drum home their grievances over the poor state of the road Friday morning.
They say have been neglected by successive governments over the years.
Leading the aggrieved residents during the Friday morning demonstration was John Charway.
He told this portal that “we know this government will listen to our plea so we want to create this awareness.”
He added that “we the youth of Dawhenya organize ourselves and block the road because the road has been in this state for a long time.”
Some aggrieved residents told DGN Online that several appeals to successive governments to construct the road yielded no result.
“We appealed to successive governments to take a critical look at the road situation here after demolishing several houses but didn’t mind us.
We now want to show them that we citizens and not spectators,” one of the demonstrators stated.
Meanwhile, Fire Service personnel were called to the scene to put off the fire.
Police officers have also taken control of the situation.
