DCOP Lydia Yaako Donkor

 

Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Lydia Yaako Donkor has been appointed as the new Director-General of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), making her one of the senior officers recently appointed within the Ghana Police Service.

This development follows announcements by Inspector General of Police (IGP) Christian Tetteh Yohuno, who made changes to various directorates and regional commands.

DCOP Yaako Donkor’s appointment takes immediate effect as confirmed by the Public Affairs Directorate of the Police Service, in a statement issued on March 19, 2025.

Throughout her distinguished career, DCOP Yaako Donkor has made a remarkable impact in the fields of law enforcement, legal practice, and human rights advocacy.

She is the Chairperson of the Security Committee of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) as well as the CEO for the Police Ladies Football Club.

DCOP Lydia Yaako Donkor holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Law and Political Science from the University of Ghana, Legon. She later pursued a Barrister-at-Law qualification at the Ghana School of Law, solidifying her legal expertise. She earned a Master of Laws (LLM) degree from the University of Leeds in the United Kingdom, in International and Human Rights Law.

Currently serving as the Director-General of the Police Professional Standards Bureau (PPSB), DCOP Donkor continues to set high standards for professionalism and integrity in the Ghana Police Service. She remains dedicated to enhancing the efficiency and accountability of law enforcement in Ghana while mentoring the next generation of police officers and legal professionals.
