Dr Benjamin Nkrumah
The Municipal Director of Education for the Effia-Kwesimintsim Municipal Assembly in the Western Region, Nelly Sally Coleman, has stressed that Information and Communication Technology (ICT) enhances quality of education by making teaching and learning more practical, meaningful and exciting.
She has, therefore, encouraged schoolchildren to make maximum use of the ICT facilities in their respective schools to improve their computer skills and knowledge.
The education director stated this when a philanthropist who is a medical doctor in the municipality, Dr. Benjamin Nkrumah, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Nhyirakese Wellness Centre, handed over a modern ICT centre he built for the Anaji M/A Basic School in the area.
Estimated at a cost of GH¢30,000, the centre is expected to serve neighbouring communities within Anaji and its environs.
Mrs. Coleman urged parents to encourage their children to take the study of computer seriously since technology had made the whole world become a small village.
Handing over the facility, Dr. Nkrumah said ICT was the way forward to bridge the socio-economic divide between Ghana and the developed world.
He stressed the need for all students, particularly those at the basic level, to try to become computer literates.
He disclosed that his organisation had already embarked on various programmes to assist the less-privileged in the society and noted that he was optimistic all the initiatives would go a long way to impact lives positively.
The Headteacher of the school, Margaret Buabeng, thanked the doctor for the kind gesture and promised that the facility would be well maintained to serve generations yet unborn.
The assembly member for the area who is also the presiding member for the assembly, John Davis, promised the assembly would ensure the facility would be well secured to prevent thieves from having access to the centre.
