Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh
The New Patriotic Party (NPP) National Organizer, Sammi Awuku, says Education Minister Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, aka Napo, is working hard to ensure the success of the Free Senior High School (Free SHS) policy and must not be discouraged.
He said Napo had been able to surmount the challenges in the Computerized School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS) so that the Free SHS policy could be made better.
“I commend the Minister of Education, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, and his team for the swift and effective manner in which they have handled the reported issues regarding the Computerized School Selection and Placement System,” Sammi Awuku told DAILY GUIDE yesterday.
He said that there were so many individuals and groups, especially the opposition NDC, who are praying for the minister to fail on the Free SHS policy, but said the minister is determined to put critics and propagandists to sleep.
“Napo is doing his best to make many children feel comfortable in schools. He is determined to ensure that President Akufo-Addo’s vision of giving children basic education free until they are ready to enter tertiary institutions will become a reality,” the NPP organizer said.
According to him, the NDC is determined to bring down the Free SHS programme which he said is putting over 1.2 million children in secondary school. He added that the NDC would continue to do propaganda with everything associated with the policy just to score cheap political points.
“The NDC said the Free SHS policy could only be introduced in 20 years’ time. Napo and his team with the blessings of President Akufo-Addo and his Vice Dr. Bawumia have been able to prove that the policy can be done and, therefore, the NDC is doing everything to frustrate the gains being made.”
He said he had spoken to the minister personally and knew that he and his team were working hard, saying “I share the concerns of parents who struggled to get their wards placement but I know that the minister and his team are not sleeping. They are working to address every concern.”
