The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) will commence an electronic vehicle registration system from January 2, 2019.

According to a statement issued by the authority, the electronic platform would be used for the registration of all vehicles as a means of avoiding overcrowding of customers.

As regards this direction, from December 3, 2018 to December 31, 2018, vehicle owners seeking to register them should present such vehicles at the private vehicle testing stations for inspection. This should be followed by the presentation of the vehicles to DVLA for customs clearance, technical inspection and identity check.

According to the statement, DVLA would then select the vehicle category and generate an invoice followed by payment at DVLA office from January 2, 2019. There would also be a biometric capture at the DVLA followed by the issuance of registration documents, certificate of title, vehicle smart card and number plate.

Those seeking registration must present their Tax Identification Numbers or TIN as this is a prerequisite for the process, the DVLA advised, adding that customers should avoid dealing with middlemen.
