The Electoral Commission (EC) is set to commence the exhibition of the voters’ register today, October 25th 2018 as part of activities to hold the referendum for the creation of additional six regions in Ghana.

Chairperson of the EC, Jean Mensa made this known to the media yesterday at a press briefing in Accra, saying “the exercise, which is expected to end on October 31, 2018, follows the success of the voters’ registration exercise.”

Mrs. Mensa told journalists that the exhibition of the register would take place in 47 districts in the proposed regions to be created.

She gave assurance that all logistics for the exhibition exercise would be delivered to the districts before the start of the exercise.

The proposed regions are expected to be carved out of the Brong-Ahafo, Western, Northern and Volta Regions after the referendum scheduled for December 27, 2018.

DAILY GUIDE has been informed by EC’s Deputy Commissioner, Samuel Tetteh, who is in charge of operations that about 2,177, 751 registered voters are in the said areas.

Process

According to Mrs Mensa, all polling stations in the carved areas for the referendum would be designated as “Exhibition Centres” for the display of the provisional voters’ register for public inspection.

She indicated that “all exhibition centres within the carved areas will open from 7:00am to 6:00pm daily from 25th October to 31st October, 2018, including Saturdays and Sundays.”

The EC chairperson added that during this period, both the 2018 provisional voters’ register and the 2016 voters’ register would be placed at the exhibition centres for prospective voters to verify their details and make request for amendments where necessary.

She said exception/exclusion and multiple registration lists would be placed at the centres.

“All prospective voters whose details (names and photographs) appear on the exception list or the multiple registration list will not have their names and photographs on the main list,” according to her.

Accredited Persons

She disclosed that exhibition supervisors, members and staff of the EC, persons accompanying registered voters who have disabilities, persons authorized by the Commission, including party representatives, journalists and observers, among others, are to be accredited for the exercise.

She stated that “the public has been duly informed of the exhibition of the voters’ register, and the Commission encourages active participation on the part of Ghanaians.”
