Empowerment Worship Centre Holds ‘Lifecheck 2018’

Participants at the health screening

The Empowerment Worship Centre (EWC) has organised the fifth edition of its annual medical and educational outreach programme dubbed ‘LifeCheck’ at the La Bawawelashi School Park, East Legon.

The medical outreach programme offered a wide range of medical services, including general OPD services, specialist consultations, laboratory tests (ranging from blood sugar levels to prostatic specific antigen), eye screening, dental services and minor surgeries to the thousands of participants who thronged the venue.

Registration of beneficiaries onto the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) and health talk on epilepsy were also held by volunteer health professionals.

Schoolchildren were also given bags, stationery, clothing, shoes and food packs under the ‘Back To School’ project.

Joel Kpodo, administrator for the EWC medics, explained that the event which started five years ago has seen an exponential increase with a target of reaching over 15,000 people within the catchment area.

He said the initiative, instituted by lead pastor, Prophet Gideon Danso, was to reach out to the vulnerable in the society through the sharing of the gospel while attending to their physical needs.

Sheila Bartels-Sam, lead for ‘Back To School’, added that the church’s mandate of preaching the gospel to the poor does not end at sharing the word but also caring for the vulnerable in society.

She pointed out that a greater part of the call to be a Christian includes acts of charity and offering of support to those in need to demonstrate the love the Love Christ.

“We know school has re-opened and the children will be going so we are offering this support to demonstrate the love of Christ through the support of volunteers and corporate organisations,” she said.

Free New Testament Bibles were also given out to community members.
