A 20-acre land has been handed over by the Okyenhene, Osagyefuo Amoatia Ofori Panin, to the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) for the construction of a training school at Akyem Nsutam in the Fanteakwa North District of the Eastern Region.
Osagyefuo Ofori Panin presented the land which was reclaimed by the traditional authorities after it had been subjected to heavy mining.
Giving his address at a short handover ceremony, the Okyenhene said, “We have already had lengthy discussions and I do not want to talk much. We all know how important lands are in this country and the chiefs and people of Nsutam really cherish this land. So I want you to quickly organize yourselves and start the project because the youth are ready and eager to assist you in making sure everything goes on well.”
Nana Antwi—Deputy Executive Director of EOCO in charge of Operations—commended the Okyenhene, the chiefs and people of Nsutam for the kind gesture, saying the construction of the training school would go a long way to boost the activities of EOCO.
“We are really happy with this gesture by Okyenhene because EOCO has gone through many changes and this is how far we have come. We had options in Accra and other areas with two plots, three plots and others but with the kind of project we want to undertake, this land is the best for us. We are really happy,” he said.
“The construction of this training school and academy will not only improve the living conditions of this area but the youth will also be engaged during the construction phase to provide labour. Others will also be taken through training to work at our canteen and catering department after construction,” he added.
