Kofi Tega
THE Nkawkaw Divisional Police Command in the Eastern Region has arrested Godfred Kofi Tega, 41, aka Akora, aka Kofi Boateng, at Dawu near Adukrom for defrauding under false pretences.
The suspect was involved in fraudulent activities where he had lured and collected various sums of money, both local and foreign currencies from his victims to the tune of $400,000, the Cedi equivalent of GH?16 million.
The Nkawkaw Divisional Police Commander, Chief Superintendent James Sarfo Peprah, confirmed to DAILY GUIDE SPORTS that the suspect is self-employed and does not have a permanent place of abode.
According to Supt. Peprah, the suspect approached the owner and executives of a football club at Kwahu Bepong called Storm Football Academy in December 2014, and offered to assist them financially.
He demanded to take over the Club as its President and resource it to international level.
The suspect, according to the Police chief, informed the victims that he had arranged a tournament in Japan and had to register the players and supporters for the proposed trip.
Seventy six persons registered and paid GH?80,000 for documentation, transport and accommodation.
He also collected $31,400 and GH?39,400 from seven (7) persons with the promise of sending them to the United States of America as officials of his academy.
The Police chief said, the suspect again offered to enlist interested persons into the Ghana Police Service, where about 12 people paid a total amount of GH?12,000 for the job, which the suspect collected and went into hiding.
The Nkawkaw Police commander, Chief Supt. James Sarfo Peprah disclosed that, the suspect, Godfred Kofi Tega alias Akora One, alias Kofi Boateng and two other executives of the academy Awal Yussif Chairman/Coach and Francis Brobbey alias Nana Brenya ,the team manager were arrested and remanded into Police custody by the Mpraeso Circuit Court presided over by Madam Mariam Salleh Sinare to re-appear next month.
