Suspect Michael K Asare in police custody
The Anyaa Police have arrested a fake police officer, who was part of a gang of criminals that terrorized residents of the area.
Michael K. Asare, 29, was arrested after he allegedly harboured a notorious criminal in his house.
According to reports, his friend, identified as Ernest Baah, 39, snatched the bag of a victim containing about GH?2,500 and attempted to escape with it.
The victim raised an alarm and residents of the area gave the suspect a hot chase.
They said the suspect immediately scaled a wall and entered the house of Michael Asare.
Michael kept the friend in his room and called the police information room for assistance after residents had threatened to burn his house.
A wireless massage from the police information room was relayed to the police, prompting the Anyaa Police Station to dispatch a patrol team to the scene.
An eyewitness said when the patrol team arrived at the house of Michael Asare, they apprehended his friend and managed to retrieve the snatched bag but the money was not found.
The police, upon further questioning, realized that Michael was an imposter and demanded his identity card.
“His identity card looked different from the normal police identity card.”
Further search conducted in his room revealed a police taser, police helmet, two police uniforms and a T shirt and booth.
The suspect said he served as a Community Policing Assistant (CPA) two years ago and was not a police officer.
He has been detained at the Anyaa police station pending further interrogations.
Meanwhile, ASP Effia Tenge, the Accra Regional Police Spokeswoman, who confirmed the story, said when the police personnel got to the scene, Michael showed his identity card to them but they detected that it was fake and apprehended them.
