The Executive Director of the Fair Justice Initiative, Femi Bediatuo Asante, was honoured as the Activist of the Year at the 9th annual Ghana Women of the Year Awards, in a dazzling ceremony held last Saturday in Accra.

Femi Asante’s fierce advocacy for women’s empowerment in business, wellbeing, and the rights of incarcerated populations has made a significant impact on countless lives.

The Fair Justice Initiative, a corporate social responsibility initiative under Templars, provides economic empowerment to inmates through skill acquisition programmes, preparing them for successful reintegration into society.

Her efforts have not only uplifted thousands of Ghanaians but have also showcased the incredible capabilities of women in leadership roles.

Femi Asanteā€™s commitment to the fertility industry through her venture, Careborn, seeks to destigmatise health concerns that many women faceā€”a cause close to her heart as a wife and mother.

Beyond her role as a thought leader, Femi Asante manages several thriving businesses, including Madam Butterfly, Red Chilli, Sandbox Beach Club, School of Culinary Arts Ghana, and Yummy Meals.

Her dedication to increasing economic access for Ghanaians and Africans alike is evident in everything she does, hence, her recognition at this year’s award.

In her acceptance speech, Femi Asante expressed gratitude to Glitz Africa for the recognition and reaffirmed her commitment to continuing her advocacy work alongside her dedicated team and partners.

The event also celebrated other remarkable women, including Rebecca Akufo-Addo, who was crowned Woman of the Year, and Ghanaā€™s former First Lady, Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings, who received a Lifetime Achievement Award for her relentless efforts in promoting gender equality.

Other notable winners included Naa Torshie-Addo, Nana Krobea Asante, Prof. Angela Owusu-Ansah, Patricia Poku-Diaby, Mrs. Tucci Ivowi, Dr. Dzifa Dey, Dr. Mavis Owureku-Asare, Portia Gabor, Madam Enyonam Ansah, Abigail Dromo, and Nelly Hagan.

According to the event host, Claudia Lumor, this year’s awards not only highlighted the achievements of women in Ghana but also served as a powerful reminder of the ongoing fight for equality and empowerment.
