Popular Nollywood actress, Yvonne Jegede, has opened up about the reasons behind her divorce from fellow actor Olakunle ‘Abounce’ Fawole.
In 2019, Yvonne confirmed that her marriage dissolved barely a year after tying the knot. Recently, she shared more details on ‘The Honest Bunch’ podcast, revealing that the financial strain was a significant factor in their split.
In a teaser for the latest episode of the podcast, Yvonne expressed her regret over choosing love over financial stability. She explained that she was contributing more financially to the household than her ex-husband, which created tension and ultimately led to the end of their marriage.
“He (my ex-husband) is eight years older than me. But the moment we got married, if I tell him, ‘You dey crease,’ he would say I’m disrespecting him,” Yvonne said. She highlighted that his sensitivity to jokes and perceived disrespect due to the age difference added to their marital problems.
However, she emphasised that the main issue was the financial imbalance. “I was bringing more of the money. I’m taking care of my son like nobody exists around me. It’s not easy. I would have gone for money instead of love,” she admitted, reflecting on her experience.
