Portions of the Western Regional Lands Commission building in Sekondi were gutted by fire yesterday afternoon.
According to eyewitnesses, the affected buildings were badly destroyed alongside several documents belonging to the Regional Lands Commission.
DAILY GUIDE gathered that the fire started about 12:15 pm and consumed the stool lands and land valuation departments of the commission.
The paper learnt that but for the timely intervention of personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service, the inferno could have spread to other departments.
A source told DAILY GUIDE that some residents around the area first spotted the fire and tried to quench it but when they realised they could not, they called for help.
The source indicated that the fire started in the stool lands department but quickly spread to other departments.
He maintained that the incident was unfortunate as documents concerning land were invaluable and that the damage caused by the fire was quite extensive.
