FIRST SKY Construction Limited, local contractor in charge of the Dome-Kitase Road project, has assured constituents of Dome-Kwabenya in the Greater Accra Region of its commitment to construct high standards quality road.

According to First Sky Limited, it is determined to provide good, quality road infrastructure to help accelerate the socio-economic development of the country.

The 23-kilometre stretch will connect the Accra to Kumasi Road to the Accra-Aburi-Koforidua Road, and provide an alternate route to road users between Accra and Aburi. The road also provides access to Ashesi University.

Residents and motorists along the stretch have over the period complained of the deplorable state of the roads, amidst calls for them to be fixed.

President Akufo-Addo, cutting the sod for the commencement of work on the Dome-Kitase Road last Friday, said the project is part of the government’s agenda of providing quality roads for citizens.

According to the President, “The rehabilitation of the Dome-Kitase Road is being funded by the Government of Ghana and the Kuwaiti Fund. The works, estimated at thirty-five million dollars (US$35 million) and scheduled to be completed within twenty-four (24) months from today, are being undertaken by M/S First Sky Construction Limited, one of the best road construction companies in the country.”

The President indicated that some of the road projects completed throughout the country during his presidency includes the construction of one hundred kilometres of roads and auxiliary infrastructure under the Kumasi Inner Ring Road and adjacent streets project. Under this project, roads in Nyhiaeso, Bantama, Oforikrom, Manhyia, Subin, Tafo Pankrono, Asokwa, Suame and Kwadaso have been constructed.

Other road projects include the construction of 22km of Cape Coast Inner City Roads under the Sino Hydro Project; the construction of 10km of Prestea and Heman Inner City Roads under the Sino Hydro Project; the completion of the 56.4km Jasikan-Dodo-Pepesu Road on the Eastern Corridor, constructed under the Sino Hydro Project; and the 31km Agona Swedru to Bawjiase Road, which has been substantially completed by M/S China Railway Wuju.

In addition to these, the President stated that work is ongoing on the second 100km Kumasi Inner City Roads Project, which is being undertaken by M/S Sino Hydro, and is currently 10% complete. The dualisation of Tema-Aflao Road, including the construction of interchanges at Kpone, Savana, Dawhenya and Prampram, is also ongoing.

The President urged M/S First Sky Construction Limited to complete the project on time and on budget.

Eric Seedy Kutortse, Executive Chairman of First Sky Group, explained that the work will cover the construction of a 16.3km two-lane single carriageway with asphaltic concrete surfacing, provision of 2.8km asphaltic concrete surfacing dual carriageway arterial with auxiliary lanes on both sides for drop off and pick up, and provision of a one-km two-lane single carriageway for Ashesi University, also with asphaltic concrete surfacing.

“Mr. President, I would commend your government for the continued demonstration of faith in the capability and capacity of local and indigenous construction firms in the country whose footprint of excellent and quality output delivered in a timely fashion, are irresistibly visible for all to appreciate.  I vividly recall your words of commendations reported in the media during your courtesy call on the President of the Volta Regional House of Chiefs, Togbe Tepre Hodo IV, who is also the Paramount Chief of Anfoega Traditional Area. This was during your tour of the Volta Region sometime September 10, 2021.

“Your Excellency, I would like to take inspiration from these words of encouragement and confidence in First Sky Limited and reiterate that in the same urgent and professional fashion that we are executing the Asikuma–Have project, the execution of the Dome–Kitase project will be no different,” he said.

“Your Excellency, it is gratifying to note that for the past five years, First Sky Construction has undertaken a total of 431 kilometres of road projects across the length and breadth of the country.  I am pleased to say that all these road projects have successfully been executed, completed and handed over to the Government within scope, time and cost,” he noted.
