DEPUTY MINISTER for Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Thomas Mbomba, says the ministry has not received any official notification from the Electoral Commission (EC) pertaining to a planned registration of Ghanaians abroad for purposes of their participation in the 2024 general election.
Answering questions on the floor of the House yesterday, he stated that neither has the ministry’s assistance been sought, asserting that it is not aware of any plans by the EC to register Ghanaians.
“Mr. Speaker, respectfully, my answer to the question is that my ministry is not aware of any plans by the Electoral Commission to register Ghanaians for purposes of their participation in any forthcoming general election in 2024, nor has its assistance been elicited for such an exercise,” he stressed.
“I would, therefore, advise that the question is directed to the appropriate body which is the Electoral Commission,” he added.
According to Mr. Mbomba, in the event that the EC wants the ministry’s collaboration, it would offer the needed assistance to conduct such registration.
NDC MP for South Dayi, Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor, had asked the minister whether or not the Foreign Missions were assisting the EC to conduct the registration of Ghanaians abroad for the 2024 general election.
