Paul Essien

A former Deputy Minister for Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Paul Essien, has been elected as the Jomoro Parliamentary Candidate (PC) of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the 2024 general elections.

The former Deputy Minister, who was part of the 7th Parliament of the Fourth Republic representing the Jomoro Constituency was elected the PC during the constituency primary of the NPP in the constituency last Saturday.

Out of the 1, 055 valid votes cast, Essien had 496 to beat two other candidates–Ishmael Evonla Kwame Whajah who garnered 270 votes and Paul Hopesan Kwaw, who also received 289 votes.

The Jomoro NPP primary, which was supposed to take place on December 4, 2023, was rescheduled because of some alleged misunderstanding over the whole process.

The primary took place on December 16, 202, after a meeting of all the stakeholders, during which the parties agreed on the new date.
