Joyous pupils before the event
The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has taken another major step in advancing its Women’s Football Strategy, launching the Football for Girls and Education pillars at a Parent Teacher Association (PTA) meeting at Kokomlemle Basic 2 School in Accra.
The initiative was spearheaded by Jennifer Amankwaa Sarpong, GFA’s Women’s Football Development Manager, who presented a roadmap designed to strengthen female participation in football from grassroots to elite levels.
She reaffirmed the Association’s commitment to creating opportunities for girls and women in the sport.
“Our vision is to position Ghana’s national women’s teams as a global powerhouse and consistently remain among Africa’s top three,” Sarpong explained. “We aim to drive grassroots development, improve talent identification, grow our leagues, promote education, enhance marketing, and build stronger national teams,” she added.
One of the key announcements was the introduction of a Girls’ Colts League, which will provide a structured pathway for young female footballers to grow and compete.
The broader campaign will also focus on training female coaches and referees, challenging stereotypes about women in football, and offering mentorship and educational support through ambassadors and coaches.
The event was not just about strategy but also about action. Students from Kokomlemle Basic 2 showcased their talent in a friendly football match, while the GFA distributed footballs to the school and presented branded T-shirts to parents and teachers to raise awareness of the programme.
