Ghana Not Immune To Global Challenges – Mahama

President John Mahama

President John Dramani Mahama, has disclosed that Ghana is not immune to the shocks of global events, noting that the recent escalation of tensions in the Middle East, particularly the exchange of missiles between Israel and Iran, has dramatically increased crude oil prices.

“Despite the work we have done to stabilise the economy, Ghana is not immune to the impacts of global events. Recent events in the Middle East, involving missile exchanges between Israel and Iran, have started to escalate crude oil prices dramatically,” he stressed.

President Mahama, indicated that he has directed the Ministers of Finance and Energy to closely monitor the situation and mitigate any potential impacts on petroleum prices.

“I have instructed our Ministers of Finance and Energy to keep a vigilant eye on these developments, model the possible effects on our petroleum prices, and prepare measures to protect the gains we have made,” he added.

Speaking to the people of Gonjaland in Damongo during his ‘Thank You Tour,’ he stated government’s commitment to improving road infrastructure projects in the Savannah Region.

“I understand that the issue of roads is dear to the Yagbonwura’s heart, as they are not just physical structures but instruments of progress. Under the NDC National Infrastructure Master Plan Project, we are focused on linking food-producing areas to markets to reduce travel times,” he stated.

He assured the Yagbonwura, Bii-Kunuto Jewu Soale I that the Damongo-Fufulso and Sawla-Damongo roads would be rehabilitated.

“The Techiman-Bole-Wa road remains a strategic priority for this government, as it connects the middle belt to the North and facilitates trade. I have instructed the Minister of Roads to initiate the procurement process for the construction of this road this year, as the funding is available,” he added.

He announced plans to construct a new regional hospital in Damongo and a modern stadium, as promised in the NDC manifesto.

President Mahama also expressed his gratitude to the Yagbonwura and the entire Gonjaland for their support and prayers during the 2024 general election.

“Today, I wish to reaffirm that our commitment to the people of the Savannah Region will never shake,” he added.
