The Ghana Publishing Company Limited (GPCL) has demonstrated its ability to thrive and expand its reach with the inauguration of the first regional office in Kumasi, in the Ashanti Region.
The opening of the GPCL Kumasi office underscores its commitment to decentralising its operations and enhancing accessibility to essential publishing services across the nation.
GPCL Managing Director, David Asante, speaking at the commissioning, shared that despite facing numerous challenges, the once crumpling company has managed to maintain financial stability and achieve significant success.
“Today, through prudent management, we are happy to announce the establishment of new production units equipped with modern and sophisticated machines. All accounts have been audited and are up to date, there are no salary arrears, and profits have been made year on year.”
Mr. Asante revealed that the publishing industry despite grappling with dwindling revenues previously has reached a significant milestone financially.
“Financially, GPCL has demonstrated resilience and success. Apart from the challenging COVID years of 2020 and 2021, we have consistently recorded a profit, reflecting our robust business strategies and commitment to excellence.
“I would like to take this moment to acknowledge and appreciate the invaluable support of our stakeholders.
“Our achievements are built on the foundation of digitalisation, an initiative championed by the Vice President, His Excellency Alhaji Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia,” he added.
However, Mr. Asante was quick to emphasise that while GPCL’s current achievements are commendable, there is still much work to be done.
He outlined plans for further expansion of the company’s reach and influence, particularly in the area of digital publishing.
“The establishment of this Kumasi branch is just the beginning. We have ambitious plans to expand our presence to other regions, specifically the Northern and Western regions, in the near future.
“This expansion is a testament to our commitment to bringing our services closer to the people of Ghana, ensuring accessibility and convenience for all,” he said.
He also reiterated his commitment to ensuring that GPCL remains a key player in Ghana’s publishing landscape, contributing significantly to the country’s socioeconomic development.
The special guest of honour, Information Minister, Fatima Abubakar, highlighted GPCL’s journey over the decades and its historical significance.
She noted that the inauguration of the new office in Kumasi symbolises the revival of GPCL and its unwavering commitment to restoring its former glory.
“This occasion signifies a monumental step forward in our collective journey towards reclaiming and advancing the esteemed legacy of GPCL,” she stated.
Mrs. Abubakar highlighted GPCL’s recent success, noting its consistent profitability over the last two years.
She attributed this success to prudent and efficient management under the current administration.
She emphasised that with the right leadership and governance, state institutions can thrive and contribute significantly to national development.
“GPCL has emerged as one of the most viable state institutions. This remarkable turnaround is a testament to the prudent and efficient management,” she remarked.
The minister extended her deepest appreciation to the GPCL Board, led by Dr. Daniel Owusu-Ansah, and the management team under David Boateng Asante.
She also lauded the GPCL staff for their hard work and dedication, noting that their commitment to excellence and resilience, especially during challenging times, has been pivotal in driving the company forward.
The new office will serve the Ashanti Region and its adjoining regions, making it easier for individuals and organisations to access a wide array of products and services.
It is also expected to have a positive economic impact, creating jobs and fostering local partnerships.
Moreover, it is expected to empower the local population by providing them with timely access to crucial information and publications, thereby enhancing transparency and informed decision-making.
