Chairman of Parliament’s Select Committee on Sports, Ernest Norgbey, has disclosed that government has earmarked GH¢150 million to support the Black Stars’ preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Mr. Norgbey explained that the allocation is aimed at ensuring the national team is adequately prepared for the tournament, which will be co-hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico.

“When you talk of funding, the government has allocated about GH¢150 million for the preparation as we speak now,” he stated.

He noted that although FIFA is expected to provide financial assistance to participating nations, those funds may not be released early enough to meet the immediate demands of pre-tournament activities.

“Yes, we know that FIFA will be giving us some amount of money, but that amount will not come before the preparation,” he added.

While details of how the funds will be disbursed remain unclear, the Black Stars are scheduled to engage Germany and Austria during the next international window as part of their build-up to the global showpiece.
