The GNPC Foundation has said that its community and human development agenda is making positive impact in the lives of many people and communities across the country.
Dominic Eduah, Executive Director of GNPC Foundation, disclosed this during the premiering of a video documentary highlighting the Corporate Social Investment Programmes undertaken by the GNPC Foundation.
According to him, the foundation has provided potable water through the construction of borehole facilities; educational infrastructure such as fully furnished classroom blocks and laboratories; and sanitary facilities in communities, schools and markets.
The foundation has also provided sports and recreational infrastructure with the development of several community pitches into standard Astroturf facilities across Ghana and for the youth, and offered over 4,000 scholarships for undergraduate and post-graduate studies in Ghanaian tertiary institutions.
He said the foundation had also committed some $4 million over a period of four years to support research and human capacity development in four universities in Ghana’s mining, oil and gas sector.
He said in furtherance to the President’s pledge to relocate GNPC’s Operational Head Office to Takoradi, the GNPC Board took a decision to set up the GNPC Foundation in Takoradi, to spearhead its Corporate Social Investment initiatives, saying, “This was a deliberate strategy to ensure that the foundation, though national in scope, moved closer to communities within its production enclave.”
He said in recognition of the government’s efforts to strengthen and upscale the study of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) in Ghana, the foundation accepted the challenge to play its part in achieving the goal.
“This has led to our investments in STEM training and encouraging interest in this area with programmes such as the STEM Quiz and the Digital Academy at the basic school level,” he said.
“I am encouraging other organizations to also invest directly into and grow with their communities by honouring the social contract they have with them,” he emphasized.
