The Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) has announced the commencement of applications for Jewellery and fabrication licenses (Categories A, B and C) as well as Refinery License.

According to a statement released by the board yesterday, the initiative forms part of its mandate to formalise  the country’s long term gold value addition sector, as well as strengthen regulatory compliance and promote sustainable growth in line with the Ghana Gold Board Act 2025(Act 1140).

GoldBod emphasised that the new legal framework will permit only duly licensed persons authorisation to engage in gold trading, jewellery manufacturing, gold fabrication, and gold refining in the country warning that engaging in the above activities without a valid GoldBod license is an offence punishable by law.

The statement further stated, “All existing licenses issued by the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources for gold refining and fabrication are no longer valid under the current framework”.

The Board has therefore directed all existing jewellery manufacturers, fabricators and refineries to regularise their operations by applying for the appropriate license before the deadline of December 31, 2025.

It further added that operating without a GoldBod license after the said date will attract a sanction.

GoldBod outlined four categories of licenses available for application. They are Jewellery and Fabrication license category A, which is for Ghanaian sole proprietor artisans and small-scale businesses fabricating jewellery and other castings solely for local sale.

“Category B is for fully Ghanaian owned medium-sized companies engaged in fabrication for both local sale and export.

“Category C is for large scale companies thus, both local and foreign fabricating jewellery and other castings for local and export markets,” it stated.

The Refinery License the board said is for entities seeking to operate gold refineries in the country.

The board added that applications are to be submitted exclusively online via the official website- www.goldbod.gov.gh
