Gov’t Bans Religious Activities In Schools; Parents Barred From Visiting

Government has placed a ban on all religious activities in schools nationwide.

According to Education Minister, Matthew Opoku Prempeh, when schools reopen, there cannot be any religious activities.

He said the move is to prevent close contacts to stop the spread of coronavirus.

According to him, when schools reopen, parents and others cannot visit their children or wards.

He said all class sizes are going to be split to ensure the social distancing protocol.

He stated that SHS would reopen on June 22, JHS on June 29.

He said there will be no mass gatherings and that dinning halls will he operated in batches.

For JHS, there will be no outside break apart from nature call.

No Visit

He said there will no visits to schools and that parents cannot go to schools to see their wards.

According to him, there will be no mass gatherings and sporting activities in schools.

He stated that an aggressive back-to-school and re-entry campaign was being introduced to ensure that every students including girls return to school.

He stated that disinfection exercise is being undertaking in schools.

Financial Clearance

He said Government has granted financial clearance for the recruitment of some 6,178 teachers.

He says the teachers are to be recruited at the public university level.

According to him, all public universities that need financial clearance have been granted clearance.

He revealed that Government has approved the increase in Research allowance from GHS 500 to 1,500 Ghana Cedis, this is a 200% increase.

Introduction of the Ghana National Research Fund Bill which is currently before parliament.

Ghana Tertiary Education Policy that was publicly launched on June 14, 2019 at the University of Ghana and this has given rise to the Public University Bill that is before parliament, he noted.
